Work permit in Turkey
i had a work permit in turkey from 2017 to 2019 and then switched to a tourist permit from 09-2019 until 08-2020 I got another work permit which is what I am holding now, my question is can I apply for citizenship in 2023 when completing 5 years working in turkey or the fact that i had a tourist permit in between will prevent me from that right, in another word should the 5 years be in a row or they can be as in my case separated. PS: i only have been outside turkey for 1 month during this whole period.

According to Article 16 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901, foreigners working in Turkey with a continuous work permit for 5 years can apply to acquire Turkish citizenship. However, working with an uninterrupted work permit for 5 years does not directly gain Turkish citizenship. Applicants are required to have a valid passport and not to be in a situation that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order. The most important point is that it is required not to be abroad for more than 180 days within a five-year period. After the foreigners who work for 5 years without interruption, prepare the necessary documents in a file and apply for citizenship, the file is transferred to the Citizenship Investigation and Research Commission. The commission subjects the foreigner to an interview. In line with the interviews, examinations and researches, the commission decides whether the foreign national can be a Turkish citizen or not. Processes usually take one year. It is important that you get expert support for the citizenship application and for the positive results of the procedures.
