The Definition of "Medical Condition" in the Unruh Civil Rights Act of California
I was surprised to learn that the Unruh Act provides a ver narrow definition of "medical condition" which only includes cancer and "genetic disorders." Los Angeles municipal code also protects AIDS patients from housing discrimination, but what about anyone that had surgery or has any other medical condition which isn't genetic or cancer-related? I was denied an Airbnb reservation because I'm going to have knee surgery, and it seems not to be in compliance with any law, including ADA, Unruh, Equal Employment/Housing which protects me from that sort of discrimination. Is that correct, or are there any laws that protect people having basic medical procedures from being discriminated against by hotels or Airbnb-type services?
