Hi, Patents are tied to the specific jurisdiction where they are delivered. When you own multi jurisdictional patents hou own what is called a "family of patents" where all patents are quasi identical but have been registered in all jurisdictions of interest according to local rules. In certain cases some countries may have pooled their resources together to create a unified patent system (for e.g., Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg created a single patent system for the "Benelux" territory). As a consequence, you need to file for, monetize and/or defend your patent in each jurisdiction of interest. On another hand several globalized system for patent filing exist. For example, filing a patent with the European Patent Office facilitates and rationalize filing in all 50+ member states. Moreover, the PCT system (under the umbrella of WIPO) facilites filing in most foreign jurisdictions as well. At your disposal should you wish further answers! Guillaume
