A contract can be null and void for some reason. For example, if the parties to the contract agree to do something illegal, the contract will be null and void. If one party to the contract is not competent to understand the terms of the contract, the contract may be null and void. Finally, if the subject matter of the contract is destroyed or otherwise rendered impossible to perform, the contract will be null and void.
