I wish to understand whether in Italy there are laws restricting the co-occurrence of directors in competing companies.

Yes, there are. Art. 2390 of the Italian civil code states that both shareholders and directors are not allowed to take up the following positions, whether directly or on behalf of third parties, unless expressly authorised by the general meeting of their company: (1) directors, (2) general managers, (3) unlimited liability shareholders of companies in competition with the original company.
