Is the Indian Divorce Act of 1869 applicable for all religions, or is it limited to Christians?
The Preliminary section of the Indian Divorce Act of 1869 (Point 2, here: https://www.indiacode.nic.in/bitstream/123456789/2280/1/A1869-4.pdf) concerns the scope of application of the aforementioned law. Accordingly, the Court may grant any relief as per this act only if at least one of the petitioner/respondent is Christian. However, is it possible that the court issues a Decree of Dissolution regarding this provision so that the members of other religions can invoke it as well?
