There are multiple requirements in order to lawfully implement microchipping, including:
- To comply with the right to privacy, as provided for in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
- Consent, and the need to obtain it in a freely given expression
- Resolving possible impacts on health
