The GDPR provided new regulations relating to data deletion/erasure ("the right to be forgotten") and data portability.
Regarding data erasure, there is an option for the user to "Delete My Account", which promises deletion of the user’s account information and profile photo, their removal from all groups, and the deletion of all message history on the user’s phone and in their iCloud backup.
