The best way to become an immigration officer is first to obtain a degree in law enforcement or a related field. Many immigration officers have experience working in the Border Patrol or as Customs and Border Protection Officers. After obtaining the proper education and training, you can apply for a position with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Once you are hired, you will need to complete a three-week training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Upon completing the training program, you will be sworn into office and begin your career as an immigration officer.
