"Two main categories can cause a contract to be breached: mistakes and intentional wrongdoing.
On the mistake side, a party might breach a contract because they misunderstood what is required or failed to properly perform their obligations under the contract. For example, if you hire a contractor to build you a house and mistakenly build it on your neighbor's land, that would be a breach of contract. Or if you hire someone to paint your living room and they do a poor job and don't cover up all the nails like they're supposed to, that would also be a breach.
Intentional wrongdoing is when one party intentionally does something that violates the terms."
