In addition, all sponsors are required to complete an affidavit of support (I-864) stating that they will provide financial assistance to the immigrants if necessary. They are also responsible for providing information about the immigrants' income, assets, and expenses. This information is used to determine whether the immigrants will likely become public charges (depending on government assistance).
