How are immigration judges appointed?

"First, you must know there are currently around 320 immigration judges serving in the United States. The process for appointing an immigration judge generally starts with a notice being sent out to qualified attorneys who are members of the bars of certain federal courts, inviting them to submit applications for the position. From there, a screening committee reviews the applications and recommends a slate of candidates to the attorney general. The attorney general then makes the final decision on who to appoint as an immigration judge. Once appointed, immigration judges must complete a training program at the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review before they can begin hearing cases."
