The New Singapore Convention Conference

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is a not-for-profit, UK registered charity working in the public interest through an international network of 40 branches with membership of 16000 individuals from all over the world. It exists for the global promotion, facilitation and development of all forms of ADR. There has been much talk about the Singapore Convention and its NYC competitor.

Although the Singapore Convention attempts at emulation of NYC’s meditation environment, it has a different bar and scale. Under the NYC, settlements can be made by way of mediation, expert determination, and negotiation which are in conformity to an arbitral tribunal.

On 17-19 April, 2020 CIArb European Branch Annual conference will be held in Venice, Italy. The title of the conference and AGM is: The New York Convention v. The New Singapore Convention: Another Game of Thrones or a Marriage of Reason?”
